Variable load subjected to spring of the support and that spring travels (+) UP and or (-) DOWN according to the movement of pipe line, i.e. pipe line pressure & movement are conveyed to variable support. Variable spring hanger supports are usually installed in preset condition of its spring but preset locking is been released before starting the operation and support is subjected to pipe line as a top supported hanger support or as a bottom supported hanger support depend on availability of near by rigid structure towards the supporting point of the pipe line.

Vertical movement on either direction (UP & DOWN) of pipe line will be shown through the travel of spring of the support and being indicated in the load deflection scale attached to the body of the variable support, simultaneously the vertical loads like operation or installation loads are marked on the same scale.

When at a supporting point of a pipe line a variable support is subjected, but the movement of the pipe line with its fluctuation of loads are not restricted by variable support and as soon as loads withdrawn or minimize from the pipe line, it will get relief from strain or minimize the strain with the help of spring support and retain the comparatively stable position of pipe line and thus the pipe line will be with better longevity.
